Isla Mujeres da la bienvenida al pez más grande del mundo: el Tiburón Ballena. Se trata del tercer festival en honor a estos animales marinos, el cual se celebrará del 16 al 18 de julio próximo.
Debido a la necesidad de preservar el frágil ecosistema marino, la agencia de viajes eco turísticos Ceviche Tours y la Dirección de Turismo de Isla Mujeres se han unido para realizar este festival tan especial.
El tiburón ballena puede llegar a medir hasta 15 metros. Se alimenta de plancton y visita las aguas del Caribe hasta el mes de septiembre. Su impresionante y extensa boca mide aproximadamente 1.5 metros, lo cual hace que nadar junto a esta especie sea una experiencia inolvidable.
Un encuentro directo con el mundo marino es posible en Quintana Roo, al contar con la barrera de arrecifes coralinos más grande de América: el arrecife maya. La diversidad de especies de flora y fauna, así como el agua cristalina color turquesa hacen de Cancún el destino ideal para las actividades subacuáticas, dentro de las que destaca el avistamiento del tiburón ballena, conocido localmente como ‘dominó′.
El Festival del Tiburón Ballena contará con el avistamiento de 200 tiburones, nado junto a estos animales marinos, eventos familiares e internacionales y pláticas para concientizar sobre la preservación de estas especies.
